Rest is embarking on a journey to uplift our Data capability within our investments business. This is beginning with a project to build out an internal Data Platform that can serve a variety of needs and Use Cases for our business.
The Data Engineer is a key role within this newly formed Investments Data Team. You will be an integral part of a highly performing collaborative team that will transform the way our Investments Function undertakes reporting, insights and analysis. You will have the benefit of working with an established team and platform whilst at the same time the freedom to build a new capability for the Investments Function.
An integral part of this role is the development and of robust data pipelines and supporting datasets to serve the needs of this business area. You will have the support of a highly experienced data architecture team but the freedom to work autonomously and bring your experience in modelling and crafting a new analytics repository to the business.
Qualifications
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Architect, develop and manage scalable data pipelines using on-premises and cloud-based data platforms using Snowflake, Talend, DBT, GitLab, AWS S3 and Redshift

Lead the maintenance of the Investment team’s Snowflake environments; provide advanced support to BAU teams; proactively monitor, identify, and resolve data-related issues or performance bottlenecks while mitigating risks.

Spearhead collaborations with Product Owners, Data Architects, and Power BI Developers to devise sophisticated data integration patterns, data marts, and modeling techniques that align with business objectives.

Migration and transformation of large, complex datasets from diverse sources, structures, and formats, to support analysis and unlock actionable insights.

Guarantee high data quality and integrity within investment datasets (IBOR, ABOR, PBOR, etc.), employing best practices in data governance and compliance.

Serve as the go-to investments data expert, offering strategic guidance and in-depth support to a wide range of stakeholders.

Uphold and enhance data engineering best practices and coding standards within the team.

Oversee the production data platform, ensuring swift resolution of operational issues and maintaining system stability.

Collaborate closely with the Head of Investments IT and project leads to strategize workload priorities and project planning.

Take a proactive role in key strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering the firm’s data capabilities, driving innovation and technological advancement.
Pre-Requisites
Required experience, understanding or credentials including:

A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a data engineering role with proven technical leadership in managing complex data systems

Advanced expertise in Snowflake, Talend, DBT, AWS S3, AWS Redshift, and visualization tools like Power BI
-
Proficiency in SQL and programming/scripting languages such as Python, VBA, or Java.

Experience with MS Power Platform (Power Apps) and Atlan is highly advantageous.

Strong foundation in ETL/ELT design, data modeling, and data warehousing principles.

Mastery of source control tools like Git and adeptness in CI/CD methodologies.

Demonstrated success in a run and delivery-focused environment, consistently fulfilling delivery commitments.

Comprehensive knowledge of data management, data governance best practices, and investment data principles.

Expert-level analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a proactive mindset.

Familiarity with relational and big data architectures, including optimization and data analysis techniques.

Good understanding of financial markets, investment strategies, and a passion for leveraging technology to drive process improvements.

Keen interest in exploring and applying advanced analytics, AI, ML, and LLMs within the data warehousing domain.

Preferred background in superannuation or asset management, with experience in an agile project environment.
