Strategic Context:

Currently, Sanofi has the most robust pipeline and forthcoming product launches in the company’s history. As the next phase of our Play-To-Win strategy, Sanofi must appropriately support this pipeline to materialize our vision of delivering scientific miracles to patients worldwide. Thus, modernizing the Sanofi operational structure is also required. In line with this, project DRIVE is shepherding change throughout the organization and created the development of the Go-to-Market Capabilities (GTMC) team within the company.

 

The new GTMC organization is charged with delivering best-in-class capabilities to bring speed and increased value to commercial operations. It will refine priorities across products, markets, and the pipeline through dynamic resources allocation and efficiencies. Silos that existed between business units as well as duplicative and overlapping resources will be replaced with standardized processes and tools. Operating with a One Sanofi mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, GTMC will accelerate and improve key capabilities to do more with less and facilitate the best-informed strategic decision making across the organization.

 

The GTMC organization aims to:

  • Centralize Go-to-Market operational tasks across GBUs

  • Standardize best in class capabilities, strengthen global support, and implement a better vertical reporting structure within GTMC from local to global

  • Define ways of working, bringing clarity on the interactions across GBUs, Digital, and Commercial executional support teams from Sanofi hubs to optimize process excellence and efficiency

The Senior Director, Insights & Analytics: Rare Blood Disorders (RBD) is responsible for leading a team focused on delivering Commercial Insights and Analytics (CI&A) including integrated analytics, forecasting, and market research (MR) that is used to derive deep insights in support of the Sanofi’s Rare Blood Disorders ambitions.

This is a leadership role, and based on the experience of the candidate, they will have direct responsibilities for MR and I&A for RBD supported by their team. Leading with an action-oriented insights approach, they will help drive local strategies and input into global strategy. The Senior Director will be an integral strategic partner to Sanofi’s commercial leadership and many cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., market access, medical affairs, launch excellence, etc.) They will lead a high performing team that aims to exceed expectations of those they support. Partnering and providing leadership/direction to the Sanofi extended offshore team to maximize the insights generation and delivery process is also a key responsibility of the role.

This position will report to the US Head of Insights & Analytics – Pharma and will be based in Cambridge, MA.

Responsibilities

Together with other CI&A leads, co-develop and implement the CI&A strategy to:

  • Implement the GTMC frameworks and processes to maintain / manage service level agreements with our internal and external key partners
  • Drive innovation where marketing teams can leverage more actionable insights faster
  • Inform both high level strategic tradeoffs and operational execution on key issues
  • Ensure insights delivery to brand stakeholders are tailored to each specific audience to empower commercial teams
  • Guide the brand planning process via strategically grounding it in insights from the most relevant and timely analytics, and market research

 

Act as an CI&A expert and cross-functional consultant:

  • Represent CI&A, be the primary point of contact, develop strong relationships with business stakeholders, ensuring the business needs are met

  • Participate in Leadership meetings at a C-Suite level, providing Insights and Operational expertise to drive strategic decisions.

  • Create opportunities for efficiencies in brand performance through process improvements, vendor leverage and data analysis, partnering with the brand to implement solutions and track ROI.
  • Drive collaboration across GTMC COEs ensuring to avoid duplication.
  • Participate in Leadership meetings at a C-Suite level, providing Insights and Operational expertise to drive strategic decisions.
  • Lead global forecasting activities and support individual countries and regions in all forecasting related issues to bring key business insights in a proactive manner to leaders within the commercial organization.
  • Lead the S&OP process in terms of monitoring levels of supply compared to forecast estimates.
  • Participate in Leadership meetings at a C-Suite level, providing Insights and Operational expertise to drive strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in similar roles, cross-business unit to ensure best practice sharing and effective leverage of support teams.

  • Support the design and execution of market research planning initiatives, collaborating with Glocal brand leads to support pre- and post-launch readiness efforts.

  • Ensure the effective implementation of all integrated insights activities such as primary research through timely and appropriate coordination with stakeholders and external vendors.

  • Manage vendor selection process, oversee multiple vendors together with internal partners, as needed.

  • Foster innovative solutions and a design-thinking approach aligned with broader GTMC strategies for Key Assets.

  • Assess and implement novel methodologies (AI, ML and Behavioral) frameworks in coordination with GTMC COEs to accelerate meaningful insights to inform brand / development plans in a manner that keeps pace with the speed of our Key Assets.

 

Effectively lead the CI&A Team:

  • Develop people from both a functional skills and leadership perspective, with the goal of growing internal talent

  • Lead the CI&A team in providing forecasting, analytics, and market research to address brand, launch and strategic planning

  • Provides leadership and direction, establishing a culture and work environment that attracts, retains and motivates a diverse, skilled workforce
  • Maximize adoption of innovative methodologies and best-practices via trainings / upskilling workshops
  • Lead 3-5 year Global CI&A Brand strategic planning including forecasting and resource planning
  • Engage with digital to ensure long term data and analytical needs are adequately planned and supported
  • Coordinate with commercial leadership to prioritize and balance team resources and workload
  • Oversee the management of the team’s budgets across the product portfolio
  • Create long range analytical, MR and digital resource plan for the I&A therapeutic area
  • Ensure proper dynamic resource allocation and guidance to the team in support of priority strategic initiatives
  • Oversee all integrated insights projects and deliverables to ensure high quality and valid research is completed across the onshore and offshore teams
  • Matrix leadership (day to day) and project management of hub resources that will be dotted-line ongoing supporting the CI&A team

About You:

Education Requirements

  • BA/ BS degree required, a scientific degree (either MS/ PhD) with a concentration in marketing and/or quantitative fields is preferred

Skills and Competencies

  • A minimum of 12+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry; equivalent combination of education (MA, MS, MBA / PhD) and / or relevant consulting experience may be considered
  • 5+ years management experience required including CI&A groups with responsibility for pharmaceutical forecasting, analytics, customer insights, and market research. 
  • Strong knowledge of US Pharmaceutical data industry standards
  • Strong understanding of all types of market research, monitoring and reporting methodologies, with experience of conducting primary market research
  • Strong grasp of advanced analytics principles, with a clear understanding of modeling methodologies and applied techniques (e.g., Bayesian statistics, regression, customer life cycle value, A/B testing, etc.)
  • Strong strategic thinking, understanding of the Forecasting models and internal forecasting cycles and processes, awareness of current data infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to drive to deadlines, balance competing priorities, and ensure high quality
  • Experience with vendor-side market research or CI firm and/or consulting firm strongly preferred
  • Experience across global, regional, local roles strongly required 
  • Product launch experience strongly required
  • Experience working directly within or partnering with related functions including new product planning, marketing, value and access required
  • Knowledge and experience with pharmaceutical data sources (e.g., prescription and sales data, patient claims data, promotional audits) preferred
