We’re looking for a senior power BI developer to join our ranks. This experienced senior Power BI developer will help lead development of Power BI semantic models and reports that will drive business users toward making data-driven decisions. The developer will work with business users to understand their data needs, prototype them using SQL and/or BI tools, collaborate with IT partners to build and implement, and validate the results.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and eager to drive for results. They will possess both business and technical data knowledge to translate between business needs and technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues in the Data & Analytics team, business users, and IT to understand data needs and data governance decisions, and build out self-service reporting environment
  • Profiling data by examining data structures, identifying data anomalies, and analyzing column properties
  • Designing and optimizing SQL views and stored procedures to ensure data is both accessible, reliable and consistent
  • Developing and maintaining complex semantic models  
  • Leveraging DAX to build complex measures
  • Optimizing the model’s performance
  • Building interactive Power BI reports and dashboards that transform complex data into visual storytelling that’s easy for users to understand and use
  • Analyzing the data by enhancing reports to expose insights and performing advanced analysis
  • Collaborating closely with database administrators and Power BI service administrators on RLS, OLS, capacity management, and implementing newly released functionality

Core Strengths and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 5+ years of experience preferably in financial services/insurance industry
  • Strong proficiency in data models, databases, data warehouses, and complex data querying
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Power Query and DAX
  • Solid understanding of modern data architecture methods, especially cloud-based and those that support large data sets.  Experience with Microsoft Azure, Snowflake and/or Databricks is a plus. 
  • Strong proficiency in business insights/business intelligence 
  • Strong proficiency in data visualization techniques and concepts, including experience with tools like Looker, Tableau, Power BI etc.
  • Demonstrated success working cross-functionally to deliver business insights
  • Strong ability to communicate business and technical information to people of various backgrounds 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to influence without authority.
  • Great analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong initiative, work ethic, ambition, to drive for results and operate with ambiguity
