Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Research Engineer to work within the Research & Technology (R&T) Department as part of the Engineering organization conducting research and development of primarily but not limited to Composite technologies based in Riverside, CA.
You will also support the development of technologies in adherence with TRL and MRL toll gates,
working closely with Engineers and Engineering Technicians, supporting daily process development.
- Position will be working onsite at our Riverside CA facility.
- Relocation assistance is available.
What You Will Do
- Interact between Engineering groups (programs, chief engineer office, aftermarket, manufacturing/operations, facilities, supply chain, test labs, suppliers and customers); ensuring on-time and quality execution of materials & process project tasks and deliverables.
- Utilize manufacturing process experience to provide technical support for executing builds
- Review, understand, provide feedback and approve manufacturing planning documents
- Ensure adherence to all compliance requirements (TRL, MRL, EHS, CMS, QMS, PPAP etc.)
- Engage in problem solving initiatives & challenge status quo (e.g. root cause and corrective action investigations, OEE, FPY, customer escapes)
- Participate and contribute on Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control build plans.
- Identify opportunities on drawings and specifications to influence changes to engineering designs and line balancing.
- Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible for processes.
- Participate in process improvement and continuous improvement activities.
- Implement results of lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Travel up to 5% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
- Communicate and make technical presentations to senior level leadership
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications You Must Have
- Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62
- 3 or more years’ industry experience in the field of composite manufacturing and process development
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and 3D CAD Designs (CATIA)
- Thermoset and thermoplastic composite material & processing specifications for Aerospace industry.
- Product development and introduction experience
- Project management experience
Qualifications We Prefer
- Aerostructures composite experience
- Experience with CATIA V5
- Metallic material & processing specifications for Aerospace industry.
- Design experience with 3D modeling software
- BSc in a Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.
- Experience with Continuous Improve tools and methodologies: Lean, Six Sigma, ACE and/or CORE

The salary range for this role is 85,000 USD – 179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
