Senior Systems/Software Engineer – BMC Firmware

This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2-3 days per week from an HPE office.

What you’ll do:
- Design and implement OpenBMC Core Infrastructure and Features for HPE Servers.
- Experience bringing up BMC firmware, analyzing performance, and coding various management features.
- Preparation of design documents and quality assurance test plans
- Providing solutions for CPU, GPU, DIMM, SSDs, NICs, IB, PSU, BMC, FPGA, CPLD, and other errors and statistics.
- Development of performance-optimized active monitoring BMC solutions based on DMTF Standards, including MCTP, Redfish, SPDM, and PLDM.
- Maintaining detailed unit test case reports and implementing code instrumentation and code coverage for each implemented module, as well as writing and automating unit tests.
- Analyzing static code, code coverage, and CPU load to provide software quality reports.
- Interfacing with the security team to ensure developed code is in line with product security goals, and with the hardware teams to influence hardware design and review the hardware architecture and schematics.
What you need to bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Typically 6-10 years experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of BMC Firmware development in X86 or ARM platform platforms, including BMC-BIOS communication, thermal management, power management, firmware updates, device monitoring, and firmware security.
- Linux kernel and U-Boot device tree expertise with hands-on experience in I2C/I3C, SPI, PCIe, SMBus, Mailbox, etc.
- Knowledge of OSB or In-Band System Management standards (IPMI, KCS, PMBus, NVMe, etc.)
- Ability to comprehend REST architecture style and especially JSON over HTTPS with OAuth.
- A thorough understanding of Linux user-space and system programming using C/C++, Bash, Python, Go, etc.
- Experience in building and deploying Linux images, as well as various Linux distributions and packages.
- Communication skills, a strict work ethic, a strong sense of teamwork, a commitment to quality work, and an excellent work ethic are all essential. You are a self-starter who loves to find creative solutions to complicated problems.
