Job Description:
Department
The Short-Term Analytical Team is an operational team with the following structure:
- 6 market analysts and a manager supporting the Short term Power Desk during week days :
- 3 analysts are working on Intraday horizon in Paris
- 3 analysts are working on Day Ahead and Week Ahead horizons in London
- The analysts on shift models the whole European electricity system in order to support the desks for the price forecast and trading strategy
- 7 analysts and a manager dedicated to the optimization of the EDF portfolio on Day Ahead and Week Ahead horizon.
- These analysts are working 7/7 in Paris.
- The analyst on shift models the available flexibility of the EDF system and translates it into EPEX orders to realise an economically efficient optimisation on the Day Ahead electricity market

Position purpose
Price forecasting models are central in EDF Trading activities. Consequently, their continuous improvement is essential in order to ensure the well running of the business. One of the key element is to develop our ability to analysis the behaviour of our counterparties in all European countries.
The main objective of the internship is to adapt a clustering model that identify powerplants from an historical dataset to a fully unsupervised model.
The main focus will be concentrated on UK powerplants and will be expand in a second time to all European countries. This work will involve market data manipulation and the development of data science models. To succeed, it will be necessary for the trainee to understand how actors of the power market optimize their assets against the market.
In case of successful results, the powerplant identification will be implemented in the price forecasting model.
Main responsibilities
- Explore and propose methods to identify powerplants from market orders without a reference dataset
- Ensure the implementation of the models is robust and well documented before the deployment in production
- Analyse results and present them to EDFT Analysts team
Person specifications & Technical requirements
Must demonstrate strength in:
- Python
- Data management
- Quantitative and statistical modelling / data science
- Interest in energy markets
- Good communication skills
Duration: 6 months
Hours of work:
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
