A DAY IN THE LIFE:

The Analytics Engineering team at Tandem is pivotal in transforming disparate systems data into actionable insights, empowering users to make informed decisions and drive business outcomes. As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of dimensional data models across our data platforms, including Databricks and EDW. Your expertise will ensure that data is accessible, user-friendly, and valuable for strategic decision-making and operational enhancements. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders to build effective data models, champion data quality, and enhance the overall data infrastructure.

Data Model Design and Development:

  • Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of dimensional data models in Databricks and EDW, following SDLC guidelines.
  • Serves as a subject-matter expert for dimensional modeling, ensuring models are robust, scalable, and meet business needs.

Data Solutioning:

  • Partners with stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Determines and implements appropriate technical solutions to address data access and modeling requirements.
  • Develops and optimizes data models to transform raw datasets into accessible and insightful dimensional structures.

Testing & Validation:

  • Tests and validates architecture, logic, and performance of dimensional models following established development workflow in coordination with Data Infrastructure team.
  • Performs user testing of dimensional models with end users to ensure ease of data access and intuitive user experience.
  • Coordinates data validation efforts with functional stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data outputs.

Documentation & Advocacy:

  • Creates and maintains detailed documentation of data models and calculated fields, including business context and technical details to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure consistency.
  • Advocates for improvements in source applications and data processes to reduce downstream data transformation needs.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Supports iterative development of existing dashboards and data products.
  • Creates feedback loops to understand operational processes, defines business metrics, measures KPIs, and recommends improvements.

Training & Support:

  • Provides guidance to team members and colleagues on effective use of data models and adherence to best practices for use.

YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

  • Expertise in dimensional modeling (e.g., star, snowflake).
  • Advanced SQL skills including the ability to optimize queries for performance.
  • Experience with relational databases and cloud-based data warehousing solutions (Databricks preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Git/source control and familiarity with the command line.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data warehousing, and business intelligence including BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Ability to translate complex data needs into actionable solutions and clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and drive complex data projects.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and driving continuous enhancements in data systems and processes.

EXTRA AWESOME:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in data modeling, analytics engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing dimensional data models.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The starting base pay range for this position is $115,000 – $130,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
