Nutrien
Sr Data Architect, Engineering and Integration
Job Description
At Nutrien, our purpose is Feeding the Future and we do so with safety, inclusion, integrity and results as our core values. Nothing is more important than sending our people home safe, every day.
Nutrien is a leading provider of agricultural products, services, and solutions. With nearly 25,000 employees world-wide, we are the largest producer of potash (by capacity) and one of the world’s largest producers of nitrogen and phosphate. We also operate a leading agriculture retail network that services over 500,000 growers globally.
We harvest the best. Diverse views and experience make us strong. We look for people who have a safety-first mindset, who are collaborative team players, who deliver on their commitments, act with integrity, and who support inclusion.
Working at Nutrien will provide you an opportunity to help us raise the expectation of what an agriculture company can be and grow your career.
In this role you’ll be reporting directly to the Director, Global Data Integration, Enterprise Architecture, working closely with the extended data services team, other architects, technical developers and platform administrators, as well as domain subject matter experts across multiple business areas, and external experts. You will be responsible for delivering global direction for data engineering and integration architecture as well as project solution architecture for innovative data-centric solutions, working both independently and in collaboration with other architects from the data services team and beyond.
What you will do:
- Design and develop the target data engineering and integration architecture (e.g. blueprints, standards, solution architectures) that enables the Nutrien business architecture and drives engineering, integration, and advanced analytics as well as data warehousing
- Strive to implement the target data architecture by identifying candidate architecture roadmap components based upon gaps between the baseline and target data architectures
- Define overarching standards and patterns across the data engineering and integration solution lifecycle from development to sustainment
- Working with the larger architecture community, various business units, and the development teams to manage the data assets of the organization
- Mentor others on the team and in similar roles throughout the department
What you will bring:
- Post-secondary degree education at university level at a minimum.
- 8 + years of combined experience delivering solutions and hands-on data roles in a large-scale, heterogeneous IT environment.
- Technical experience in multiple technology domains and understanding of how that technology is used across multiple business functions, in multiple industries, to deliver business value.
- Prior work experience working with technologies like SoftwareAG webMethods (or other Enterprise-grade integration platforms), cloud data engineering platforms (e.g. AWS Services, webMethods.io, FiveTran), and various other technologies for data replication, messaging, and streaming.
- Deep understanding of integration and data engineering concepts and previous experience in enterprise integration/engineering environments.
- Exposure to traditional data architecture frameworks (e.g. DMBOK) or certification (e.g. CDMP/CBIP) as well as broader Enterprise Architecture concepts and frameworks (e.g. TOGAF) desirable.
- Technical: You love technology and seeing it applied to solve real problems. In particular, you have a passion for technologies that improve access and visibility to data and you’re not afraid to build some ELT/ETL data pipelines or write some SQL code when the need arises. In addition, you love staying on top of current developments and can take the hype and excitement from the general world and turn it into a compelling roadmap for Nutrien.
- Problem Solving: You don’t stop until the problem gets solved, no matter how complex, and you find more than one way to solve it. You don’t just test that it doesn’t break, you test until it doesn’t break. You love working with other people, presenting your viewpoint but ultimately working to-wards the best, most sustainable architectures and solutions. You enjoy working on roadmaps and architectures that will be here for the long-term and have a transformational impact on the organization.
- Communication: You are a strong communicator, whether it is written, verbal, or presenting ideas. You also enjoy collaborating with people on different teams and continue to maintain high levels of visibility, efficiency, and collaboration. You possess tactful negotiation and persuasion skills to help build enterprise alignment on optimal data management and analytics practices at Nutrien. You are not afraid to provide guidance to mentees, peers, and leaders when appropriate.
- Business Analysis: You know the questions to ask to get to the heart of the matter. You leverage your relationships across IT and business to target compelling data architecture.
