As a Sr. Data Scientist, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to apply machine learning techniques, advanced data analysis, and optimization methods to solve complex problems in various domains, including manufacturing, clinical trials, and pharmaceutical operations. You will leverage data science best practices to streamline processes, drive efficiency, and develop AI-driven solutions, all while contributing to the advancement of mRNA therapeutics.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Perform data analysis, visualization, and statistical modeling to support internal teams.

  • Apply machine learning techniques to optimize processes in specific areas, such as manufacturing or clinical trials.

  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to model and analyze datasets within your immediate team.

  • Ensure ethical AI use and contribute to the continuous improvement of methodologies within your department.

  • Communicate findings to internal stakeholders with a focus on technical accuracy.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Employ data science and software engineering best practices, including version control and documentation.

  • Lead initiatives to advance AI-driven solutions that enhance efficiency and accuracy in R&D processes.

  • Explore new technologies and methodologies to continuously improve Moderna’s data science capabilities.

  • Mentor junior team members, fostering growth and collaboration within the team.

  • Contribute to the long-term strategy for applying data science to mRNA research and development.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Ph.D. or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience delivering data science projects, preferably in an industry setting.

  • Proficiency in Python (Jupyter, Pandas, scikit-learn) and experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).

  • Strong experience in analyzing and modeling large, complex datasets (structured and unstructured).

  • Familiarity with best practices in software development, including AWS, Docker, and Git.

  • Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in applying machine learning to clinical, engineering, or manufacturing domains.

  • Familiarity with probabilistic modeling and natural language processing tools.

  • Track record of publishing scientific research or method development.

  • Experience with patient data or other sensitive datasets.
