Position Specific Description

Position Requires-

  • Experienced Engineer responsible for the design, development, implementation, and support of equipment diagnostics algorithms and applications.  This position requires a highly motivated individual with a bias for action who has a sense of urgency in the face of important issues and opportunities, is ready to make timely decisions, is ready to commit oneself, and is willing to take action in a demanding position. 

 

Description-

Analyze data from a recent power plant failure event and develop new mathematical algorithms to detect the symptoms of failure.  Additionally, work with power plant equipment engineers to develop failure detection methods and algorithms.  Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to broad variety of assignments and related fields.  Makes decisions independently regarding engineering complexities and methods.  Requires use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices in individual’s field. The development of new diagnostic algorithms requires the extensive use of advanced engineering and mathematical theory and applications.  Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.  Consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments. 

 

Typical duties and responsibilities include:

  • Developing new and update existing data analysis and reporting algorithms to support predictive monitoring and data analysis of power plants. 
  • Analyze data from equipment failure and develop methods to detect failure signature if one exists. 
  • Produce flowcharts and equations to be used in software code to realize the developed algorithms and apply them to real time data. 

 

Position’s accountabilities include interacting and supporting a power plant operations control center that runs 24×7.  Occasional call outs and occasional travel required.

 

Desired Qualifications – 

  • The perferred candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree, in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and two or more years of experience in diagnostic application development. 
  • Software development skills, development of equipment diagnostic mathematical and statistical algorithms, and the uses of tools such as Python, Matlab, RapidMiner, and R are highly preferred.

 

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM, may require occasional after hours support/callout and occasional travel.

Travel: 5% to Power Generation Division regions

Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (i.e., “Big Data”).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutions
  • Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
  • Works with big data and distributed computing platforms
  • Develops software and contributes to product development
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: 4+ years

  • Master’s Degree 
  • Doctoral Degree
