Gatik’s Class 3-7 autonomous box trucks are commercially deployed in multiple markets including Texas, Arkansas, and Ontario, Canada.

About the role:

We are seeking senior or staff research engineers for our localization and mapping team to build state-of-the art mapping pipelines that combine data from a wide variety of sensors, as well as localization algorithms that make use of these maps in realtime. We are looking for top talent that shares our passion and wants to be part of a fast-moving and highly execution-oriented team

What you’ll do:

  • Develop mapping algorithms and create a robust mapping pipeline that supports the building of high definition maps at large scale
  • Build well-tested C/C++ software and deploy and test on our AV platforms and in simulation
  • Investigate, test, and calibrate sensors for integration into sensor fusion algorithms
  • Implement other lidar and camera data ingestion and pre-processing/filtering algorithms
  • Develop projects such as online and offline localization, global localization, state bootstrapping
  • Analyze and architect safety and redundancy in the localization system
  • Own and drive highly visible performance metrics (e.g. latency, memory, bandwidth, power)

What we’re looking for:

  • MS or Ph.D. in robotics, SLAM, localization, or related fields 
  • 6+ years industry experience writing C++ software in a production environment – architecture design, unit testing, code review, algorithm performance trade-offs etc
  • Experience with pose estimation, SLAM, probabilistic filtering, non-linear optimization and 3D data
  • Practical experience in processing large-scale and real-world data
  • Experience implementing mathematical principles effectively in software; experienced in Eigen, Ceres/G2O/GTSAM, Boost, etc
  • Expert-level knowledge of SLAM – frontend and backend, point cloud registration, GNSS/INS
  • Familiar with Deep Learning techniques for localization and mapping applications, especially feature detection and pose regression
  • Experience with existing deep learning tooling (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Experience with Linux / ROS
  • Research background in SLAM and/or publications in localization and mapping application
