The team’s role is to develop a market leading network strategy, enabling new business opportunities and ensuring the best possible experience for our customers, whilst delivering a return for our shareholders.

We provide the analysis to enable Networks to optimise networks so that they are economical and serve our customers well – the foundation of a secure profitable business, today and tomorrow.
This vital role will ensure alignment of network strategy with CFU strategies and business plans through development of key measures to track successful of strategies, development of plans for strategic execution ensuring maximal value is created from the delivery of network strategies and tracking CFU alignment to the network technology roadmap over the 2-10 year time horizon, supporting the Medium Term Plan development, and any longer term planning. This includes carrying out analysis of the MTP, mapping plans against a strategic framework and checking for alignment across the business to ensure execution of strategic priorities, thus enabling BT to plan the network, making sure deployment is ideal in terms of capacity & cost, allowing optimal decisions to be made.
What you’ll be doing
• Development of a Network strategic execution framework over the MTP period
• Development of a set of measures to track strategic execution progress. Agreement of these measures across the business.
• Supporting the Medium Term Plan development that will deliver a market leading Network strategy including coordinating the inputs across Networks and CFUs.
• Network optimisation – e.g. to find the right trade-offs in a complex environment.
• Cost modelling – e.g. to determine the right technology taking into account cost and revenue
• Investment control – e.g. to ensure Networks Capex is spent wisely across the mobile enterprise programme.
• Performance modelling – e.g. to ensure we are planning to achieve quality targets.
• Strategy development – e.g. to consider output of models and make recommendations on new approaches or challenge existing thinking where appropriate.
• Future Model development – scenario modelling ensuring our models are able to incorporate future architecture decisions and asses the impacts, and ensuring the modelling environment is appropriate to best meet business needs (e.g. migration of existing models to Google cloud).
• Balancing network and marketing ambition with pragmatism
• Balancing focus on short term priorities and longer-term strategic drivers including network enablers.
• Production of internal and external material (briefings, slides, keynotes) for senior managers and Networks Strategy and Futures Director to ensuring key messages are tailored to audience and objectives.
Skill and Experience
• Highly numerate with strong data analysis skills with a variety of tools (e.g. interrogating databases, ability to develop insight from large data sets)
• Ability to develop software to create network models and analysis tools for business decisions (SQL, Python, or other object oriented language programming skills, Excel)
• Ability to explain complex technical issues in a clear and straightforward way to people across all levels of the business
• Strategy Execution development – experience of aligning strategies across a complex business environment with differing priorities. Experience in setting meaningful KPIs to measure successful execution of the strategy
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate issues and find effective solutions.
• Commercial and strategic acumen, with the ability to develop improvement plans and delivery frameworks
• Excellent stakeholder management with the ability to build effective relationships and navigate across levels and functions with ease and diplomacy, building trust and confidence and influence direction alignment where required.

Experience you’d be expected to have
• Mandatory: Highly numerate, degree level or above in subjects with strong mathematical content such as Computer Science, Maths or Physics. Ability to comprehend, analyse and interpret data, statistics and financial; a good understanding of financial concepts and financial modelling and capability to prepare business cases.
• Degree or at least 5 years equivalent experience of strategic execution in an either a commercial, business or management role in a large organization. Experience of aligning strategies across a complex business environment with differing priorities. Experience in setting meaningful KPIs to measure successful execution of the strategy
• At least 5 years experience of commercial and strategic techno-economic modelling.
• A track record of developing network models and analysis tools for business decisions.
• Good commercial and organisational awareness of business process and operations and governance within a telecoms service provider environment.
• Strong stakeholder management to MD and Director level inside and outside BT, with the ability to explain and influence, building relationship across diverse teams and complex organisations and relationships.
• Telecoms experience with understanding of networks Fixed & Mobile, at both technical (IP, Access, Core) and commercial levels.
• Good communicator (written and oral), able to communicate at all knowledge levels, bringing together diverse groups, to simplify and explain using business relevant terms, verbally and in written material.
• Experienced at collaborating across teams to deliver improvements and change.
• Experienced at resolving complex issues to resolution.
