TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Business Management Program Director, this position provides data analytics, statistical analyses, financial monitoring, and data interpretation in support of driving business decisions within Business Management and the State Parks Division.  Performs moderately complex (journey-level) data analysis and data research work.  Ensures validation and integrity of park and site data in the reservation database and business system with report preparation.  Monitors and assists with implementing analytics and performance metrics of various inputs and key performance indicators. Provides expertise to Business Management personnel on creating and deploying data procurement and data sourcing techniques and collection of information related to park visitors. Work involves data analysis and data reporting related to park visitor demographics, revenue-generation, customer service, marketing and outreach, leased concessionaire performance, organizational operations, financial analysis, and enterprise programs associated with the public use of State Parks.  Provides summary of analysis to leadership through presentations or written correspondence.  Additional duties require utilizing compiled research and statistical methods to identify user trends, user satisfaction, data correlations, service needs and business opportunities.  Performs data reporting to include various techniques such as statistical analysis, forecasting, automated report generation, text mining, and data visualization.  Work also includes design and assisting with the development of administrative and financial reports for use by program management utilizing multiple systems, such as Excel, PBS, Aspira, SAS, ESRI Business Analyst, Power BI and Tapestry.  Bridges business problems with internal/external technology support and solutions.  Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  Performs additional duties as assigned.  Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

Three years of experience in data analytics, such as: sourcing, analyzing, visualizations, and reporting data, business management or budget or financial analysis.

NOTE:  Experience may be obtained concurrently.

Licensure:

Applicant must possess a valid State driver’s license.

NOTE:  Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license

    

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Education:

One additional year of the required experience in data analytics such as: sourcing, analyzing, visualizations, and reporting data, business management or budget or financial analysis may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:      

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Business, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or closely related field.

Experience: 

One year of leadership/supervisory experience;

Experience in budget, financial, management analyses and examination procedures;

Experience in advanced use of Microsoft Excel to include complex formula writing, pivot tables, and/or use of Macros;

Experience in project management;

Experience in data tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, Power BI and/or other. 

    

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination and execution;

Knowledge of management practices and standards;

Knowledge of analytical programs and software;

Knowledge of marketing and business analytics;

Knowledge of data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques;

Knowledge of recordkeeping, including security procedures for handling, protecting, and distributing confidential data;

Knowledge in data forecasting techniques;

Skill in SAS and ESRI Business Analyst with Tapestry;

Skill in data analytics coding language(s);

Skill in advanced use of MS Excel or Power BI;

Skill in data visualization and producing reports and presentations;

Skill in automated reporting techniques for routine requirements;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in managing resources, people and workload;

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;

Skill in identifying, researching and compiling information;

WORKING CONDITIONS

Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday;

Required to work overtime, as necessary;

Possibility to work remotely two days per week after the first 6 months;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
