This Transportation Data Analyst II position focuses on data wrangling, spatial analysis and analytical model building for active transportation and safety projects across North America. A Day in the Life of a Transportation Data Analyst II
You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You support a team of data analysts to streamline existing analysis procedure, develop new analysis methodology and software toolkits that support multimodal transportation projects and promote transportation safety. You perform analysis tasks and QA/QC other analysts’ work. You will work on projects ranging from bicycle and pedestrian master plans to trail corridor studies, crash analyses, Vision Zero safety plans, and other large-scale, data-intensive planning efforts. Your job can sometimes be challenging, but you get to work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve.
Qualifications of a Transportation Data Analyst II:
- 3+ years of experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Urban Planning, Ecology/Natural Sciences, or a related field (comparable professional experience is acceptable in lieu of a degree)
- Proficiency with Open-Source GIS including QGIS and PostGIS
- Experience with complex spatial data analysis
- Programming experience including Python and SQL
- Understanding of planning analysis methods
- Knowledge of standard planning and engineering data sets (e.g. GIS network data, crash data, OpenStreetMap, Time-series data, GPS data, census data)
- Ability to manage large datasets and workflows
Preferred if you have some/any of the following skills:
- Experience of working on safety projects, understanding of Safe System Approach and skills of performing data-driven safety analysis
- Web development experience (JavaScript/HTML/CSS)
- Statistical analysis and/or machine learning

Work Schedule for a Transportation Data Analyst II
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. Our office is located in Boston’s Downtown Crossing, directly adjacent to the iconic Boston Common, within a short walk to all of the major rapid transit lines and close to both North Station and South Station commuter rail lines. Applicants should be willing to travel within New England to support public engagement activities. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.
